Moving Day
The movers are coming tomorrow.
Up until now it has seemed like an idea that was never going to happen. It’s starting to feel real.
Hunting For A Place
Off and on over the past few months I’ve been hunting for a place for us to live. It’s been both exciting and nerve-racking.
Recently, Shayla and I decided that I’d wait until I got to Seattle to find us a place. My friend, Daniel, is letting me (and Shayla and the kids if need be) crash at his house while he is away in South Africa. Daniel lives in Ballard (Northwest Seattle) and that’s where we’ll be looking to stay as well.
Ballard was historically a Scandinavian seafaring community, whose inhabitants were drawn to the area because of the salmon fishing opportunities. Ballard is surrounded by the neighborhoods Crown Hill to the North, Greenwood and Phinney Ridge to the Northeast, Fremont to the East, Queen Anne to the South and the Puget Sound to the West. Separating Ballard and Queen Anne are the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, locally known as the Ballard Locks.
The Ballard Locks are setup to prevent the amalgamation of salt water from the Puget Sound with the fresh water from lakes Union and Washington. Additionally, the Locks allow the transfer of shipping vessels to and from the varying water levels of the Pugent Sound and the lakes.
Kids At The Park
I was getting light leaks all through my Canon AE-1. I LOVE this camera and couldn’t stand wasting anymore film so I found a seal kit and resealed the camera. It worked like a charm.
Ollie At The Park
There is a small community park right up the road from my parent’s house and it has been a means for the kids to burn some energy. The heat subsided today and so I took the kids there for a while.
Ollie found a girl maybe 7-8 years his elder and persisted to chatter her ear off. He got frustrated if he felt she wasn’t listening. Overall, she was a pretty good sport.
On the walk home we came across a man brooming a 6-8 ft snake into a rain drain. Several kids gathered around to watch. As the snake disappeared into the drain, Ollie screamed out: “MY SNAKE! NO!”
A Night At The Ballpark
Last night I was given a ticket to a Ranger’s game. The seat was in section 25, row 4, directly behind home plate. I’ve never sat that close before, much less behind home plate. It was a great experience.
However, the highlight of the night was a phone call from Shayla telling me the kids saw me on TV and that Ollie was so happy to see me he started crying. Priceless.
